This Memorandum Circular is issued to enjoin all Local Government Units (LGUs) to observe and participate in this year’s World Tsunami Awareness Day, with the theme “Tsunami Awareness, Community Preparedness, and Proper Response in the New Normal”.
Declaration of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, on December 2015, of the World Tsunami Awareness Day every 5th day of November to promote a global culture of tsunami awareness.
The 2020 edition of the World Tsunami Awareness Day will be structured as a 30-day campaign with three key events focused on Global Target E of the Sendai Framework: Substantially increase the number of countries with national and local disaster risk reduction strategies by 2020, with a specific focus on two key components essential to the set up and effective maintenance of risk reduction strategies and their adoption by vulnerable communities: scientific expertise and indigenous knowledge and memory.
DOST-PHIVOLCS’ National Tsunami Advocacy Campaign aims to promote tsunami resilience across sectors in the country, and to deepen the engagement of the community in initiating and sustaining tsunami awareness and preparedness activities.
